Pinwheel pinwheel

March 28, 2012 by anne Leave a Comment

Pinwheel pinwheel spin me around, look in my pinwheel and see what I found.
30 of the 150 pinwheels I am making for decorations

Pinwheels always make me smile and what better thing to have at your wedding than something that makes you smile. They make me think of the innocence of a child playing on a sunny day and I want to capture that feeling on my wedding day. The closer we get the more excited I get and with 52 days to go I should be running over with excitement May 19th.

Please Mr. Postman

They made it in the mail!
After a fun evening of trying to print the insert cards, stuffing envelopes and addressing envelopes I got to lick all the envelopes. Ick! Thank goodness you don’t have to lick stamps any more. Since I decided to go with a lined outer envelope and with plain yellow inner envelope plus the RSVP card and envelope that all added up to more postage than I expected. So I had to add an ugly 20 cent stamp to my cute stamps. Probably very few noticed and none cared.
My brother actually drew the picture from a description of places that were important to us. I have already heard that some of the people that saw the invitation wondered why it had a picture of San Francisco when the wedding is in San Diego. It made sense when I told them the story.
Want to know about the colors? This was actually the first decision I made just a few days after we got engaged. I narrowed it down because I wanted bright fun colors and I wanted it to be colors Tom would love as well. So UCLA colors made the most sense. He is a fan, a big fan and it went so well with the picnic feel I wanted to have at our wedding. Luckily you can find the official colors online so it was fairly easy for my brother to match them.
Now that this is done I can’t wait to get fun little envelopes in the mail and see who will be celebrating with us. We got one two days after the invites went out. I wasn’t surprised at all at who sent the first one back. She is always organized and on top of such things.
66 days to go and we are all set. Just need to do some programs and make a lot of decorations. More on that next time.

Invitation Addressing Day

March 5, 2012 by anne Leave a Comment

The big day is finally here. Time to sit down and address those invitations. The lead up to this day has probably been the hardest because it meant finalizing the guest list. If you have been engaged you are familiar with some of the responses you get when you tell people about your engagement. They are usually one of the following responses:

  • Congrats I am so happy for you - you will love these people as they expect nothing and are genuinely just happy for you. They are also most likely family.
  • When is the date - never mind you just got engaged hours prior and haven’t even finished making your phone calls.
  • You better invite me - thanks for making that awkward.
The first two responses are easy to handle, but the last one will stick with you until the invitations go out. It is possible it will stay with you beyond that but I don’t know yet, so I will have to keep you posted on that one. What I can tell you is that no matter how big or small you make your wedding every bride seems to come up with guest list problems of some kind. We have decided on a small wedding and most of the people are family which means there are people out there that we like but didn’t add because we wanted to keep it intimate. I have had people offer supportive rationalization to help me decide who to invite but it still wasn’t easy.
A little fun about the invitation themselves. My brother and Maya helped get them designed and printed. We are so glad they had a role in the invitations because it makes them that much more personal. The drawing my brother might cause some confusion since the drawing is of San Francisco and the wedding is in San Diego. However, it makes perfect sense to us because it is a drawing of the pier that we walked to on our first date and where we got engaged. The invitations were printed by Igloo Letterpress and they did a fantastic job.

Since I love the surprise of opening mail I don’t want to post the invitation and ruin it for anyone. I will post a picture soon for the curious.
