policy & advocacy

Should be that food is something basic that everyone can afford, that doesn’t make you sick and isn’t something that is hung over us in political arenas. Yet here we are. Politics is all over our food system, the nutrition information we get and bad policies have caused systemic problems in the ability for all to have access and ability to get healthy food.

Changes in policy take a bit of work and it can hard to navigate how you can help or all the details of issues. I spend a lot of time reading and researching to keep up to date and even then it can be tough. I enjoy talking to others about these issues as well as working through my opinions and ideas. Most of the posts you see in this category will fall strongly under my opinion no matter how researched. When possible I will note my references with links so you can do more research yourself if you choose.

Below are some of my favorite resources for articles and information on these issues that you will see referenced frequently.

  • Marion Nestle
  • New Food Economy
  • Civil Eats

If you are interested in learning, even more, I have created a reading list of some of my favorite books about food, both non-fiction and fiction.

As a home cook and gardener, a former grocery store manager, and an advocate for improving our food system I have thousands of hours of research and real-world experience on how to get good food on our plates. My new challenge and my main focus is how to encourage my daughter to love food & eating as much as we do.
