my partner in crime

February 14, 2014 by anne 36 Comments

I got really lucky when I met My Valentine. I really am married to my best friend. I enjoy things more when he is around. He makes me a better version of myself even when he isn’t around. I am excited to be starting 30 days of eating well and exercising with him.

If I was doing this by myself I am sure I would be biting off more than I can chew. Loading too much on my plate and not finishing most of it is one of my worst habits. I really want to make it to the end of the Whole 30 and through the 8 weeks of couch to 5k. Luckily, my partner in crime is joining me on this journey. It will help me keep pushing on because I won’t want to let him down. I started this for me but I am going to make it through because of him.

Yesterday we got up and went did our first day of couch to 5k. I am sure getting up and exercising is going to take some getting used to and I know I would have stayed in bed if Tom wasn’t getting up to do it too. I was pretty impressed with myself when we finished. I felt completely like jello but it got the day started right. I felt like I had more energy all day and that is a big change for me.

Tomorrow will be our first day of doing the Whole 30 program and I have had so much fun thinking about the foods I will get to cook in the next few weeks. It is going to take a lot of planning to get all our meals made during the work week. I am hoping to make a few meals on Saturday that will be easy to reheat during the week and take some of the pressure off during the work week. Cooking after I get home at 7pm is my biggest downfall. I just want to sit and relax, not make a mess in the kitchen.

I think a bonus of the Whole 30 program will be that it will force me to get creative in the kitchen. I bought a lot of groceries after work last night. I am most excited about the different ways I can make eggs. I really want to learn to poach them and have them with asparagus and proscuitto. This recipe for meatloaf also sounds amazing and fits in the whole 30 program. We gutted the entire fridge of tempting items so we could fit all the groceries I bought. As we were going through the items in the fridge we couldn’t’ believe the items that have added sugar! They really do put that stuff in everything.

It should be a very exciting month and I am looking forward to feeling even better than I do now.

whet your whistle wednesday: issue nine

February 12, 2014 by anne 20 Comments

I have had an interesting decade. 30 to almost 40 has been the most personal growth I have had in my life. I couldn’t be more proud of myself than I am today. This whet your whistle will give you some insight into some of the things I have worked through, continue to work on and where I want to go. There is also some fun stuff in here because who wants to be all serious!

I like to down play my anxiety because it isn’t a daily thing I deal with. However, it is real and for last 6 years I have had a dozen or more days where it has put me out of commission and made me physically ill. Some ways I handle it on the easier days are listed in these 7 hacks to dealing with anxiety.

I started going to my acupuncturist for a completely different reason but the effect it has had on my anxiety/panic attacks has been the best side effect. It may not work for everyone but it is certainly worth checking out.

I have a job that requires me to work 50 hours a week. It can get fairly stressful but I love it most days. Fifty hour work weeks sucks up a lot of time in the week so I have to work hard to balance my time at home and use it wisely. I found some good tips on getting the most out of my day and plan to put them into action this month.

I am prone to stress and stress related ailments so it is important for me to find things that ease the stress. The thing that has helped me the most sounds cliché. Having a positive attitude and stopping some unnecessary complaining has made the largest impact. If you need some tips on becoming a positive thinker this infographic could help you.

Now that I have found ways to balance some of my time I am throwing in new things. Tomorrow will be our first day of the couch to 5k program. Luckily, Tom is doing this with me or I wouldn’t get out of bed tomorrow morning to do it. Ginnie’s tips on what to wear for cold weather exercise hopefully help me out tomorrow because I am wimp in the cold.

While I am 25 years away from retirement my biological clock seems much closer. I have tried a lot of things to increase our chances. No luck so far but I have more energy and feel healthier after all of them. I am hoping the start of the Whole 30 program is one more thing that increases our chance and makes me feel even better. It is a paleo type diet that is said to reset your body and teach you better eating habits.

My husband is the person that makes me the happiest and the best part of the last few years. I am so grateful I get to spend another Valentine’s Day with him.
