People come into your life at different speeds. There are people that come racing in like a force of nature and others sort of saunter in and before you know it they have been there for years. My closest and dearest friends have sauntered. I just got to spend an amazing night with one of the best friends I have. We have known each other for 6 years. We worked together and I still remember the first meaningful conversation we had. We were sitting on a bench outside of work and started talking about David Sedaris books. She later let me borrow hers and we slowly got to know each other. It really wasn’t a quick process. It took a good year of casual encounters and making coffee dates. When we found ourselves working at the same store again we became fast friends out of survival. She has always been someone that I have been myself around. There has never been a need to apologize for who I am, I don’t need to explain much of what I say or think and I can ramble for 15 minutes and she will politely listen and then take her turn. We may not see each other or talk frequently but the minute we get together it is as if a day hasn’t passed. She gets me (at least I think she does). When the Anthony Bourdain tickets went on sale she was the first person I thought of and bought two without asking. I wouldn’t have wanted to spend this evening with anyone else. We ate so many delicious terrines and pate and sausages. Not to mention we were just a few seats away from Tony. It was an amazing evening that really wouldn’t have been the same without my friend. Happy 30th Birthday Christina! Looking forward to celebrating my birthday with you at the French Laundry.
