Are you ready for some football?
Well today is the big day. The first day of football. Technically it started on Thursday I know but to me it doesn't really start until Sunday. Even more accurate is it doesn't start until the Colts play. I grew up watching football with my dad and like all things from home there is food involved. We used to sit in the family room in front of the tv eating chili con queso and bean dip. Dad had beer and I had soda.
We didn't have a football team in town until I was about 12 so I used to cheer for the cowboys because my mom hated them and the steelers. When i was 12 the Colts up and moved from Baltimore one night. Still to this day I wonder how an organization as big as a football team can really midnight move. My dad got season tickets and I got to go to a game every year with him. The first few were against the Bengals, I called them the tigers cause bengals was too hard to say. Each year he taught me a little more about the scoring and the players. Every year the team sucked a little less. I still get goosebumps every time I walk into the dome to watch a game. Everything in a dome seems more vibrant and alive than anywhere else. The turf is an unnatural green. The ceiling is almost blinding it is so white and the players are dressed in a blue that only seems possible in a detergent commercial. It still seems magical and I am a little sad that next year will be the last season in the Hoosier Dome (yes I still call it that). I will be in Indy for the game on October 22nd and I vow to go back for any playoff game we are in. I am still stinging for last years loss and I am ready for some payback. Don't let me down Peyton.
So with the start of football tomorrow I will be sitting down to watch Peyton play Eli with my beer, bean dip and brats while dressed in all the Colts gear I can dig up. For those of you that enjoy football I hope you have some great weekend food and enjoy the games. I will be doing it all over again on Monday for the double-header monday night games. To the rest of you, I feel sorry for you.
