how i knew and why you will hate me

He remembers everything and I, the girl in the relationship, embarrassingly would need to ask him how this conversation started. That is one of the amazing things about him, he listens to everything even when I swear he isn't, but it isn't how I knew. All I can remember was that some how we talked about Pride of the Yankees. I would guess it started because he said he felt like the luckiest man on the face of the earth and I melted. Yup, this is how it started and how I knew, only a week after I met him.

Guess you need a little back story to understand how a reference to a movie, that at the time I had never seen, was how I knew. I love romantic comedies really all feel good romantic movies. The good ones, the bad ones and yes, I am aware that some people believe there are only bad ones, if at the end the boy gets the girl and you dream that they live happily ever after as the credits role then it is my kind of movie.

There are two that I can and have watched so many times that I can quote them in my sleep. This brings us to Pride of the Yankees, kind of. I can quote Sleepless in Seattle from beginning to end. In that movie Annie (Meg Ryan), announces to her family on Christmas Eve that she is engaged. Her fiance, Walter (Bill Pullman), stands up and says "today I feel like the luckiest man man man on the face face face of the earth earth earth". Everyone at the table looks at him like he is crazy. Annie jumps in and says "it's the Lou Gehrig line. From Pride of the Yankees." I know I told him I knew that line and that I had never seen Pride of the Yankees and he tried so hard to buy it for me for my birthday only two weeks after we met but to no avail. We finally watched the movie three months later and it was one of the best days. Since seeing it I always think we are very much like Lou Gehrig and Eleanor, full of laughter and best of friends.

I did mention two movies though and this next one was the one that really did me in. Matter of fact, it is the quote listed on my Facebook profile and has been for years. One night going to sleep he turned to me and said "good night sweet girl." I don't think enough people have seen the movie that came from. Yes, I am aware that is not a truly original quote but let me explain. Years ago, and by years ago I mean back when I still went to Blockbuster and rented movies on VHS, I rented Beautiful Girls. I watched the movie, rewound it, watched it again and called my best friend to tell her she needed to see it immediately. Since then I have seen that movie so many times I lost count and don't even get me started on the great quotes in that one film. The one that gets me every time and always summed up what I wanted in my lifetime love was this one from Andera (Uma Thurman), "You know there are fours words I need to hear before I go to sleep. Four little words. "Good night sweet girl." That's all it takes. I'm easy, I know, but a guy who can muster up those four words is a guy I want to stay with. " So the night I finally heard those words I just smiled in the dark too happy to speak. Weeks later I asked him if he had ever seen the movie and when he said he hadn't I melted all over again. I have always wanted a dream guy but always tempered my hopes by reminding myself of another quote from Sleepless in Seattle, "That is your problem you don't want to be in love you want to be in love in the movies." I have the best of both worlds, I have found my Cary Grant.

Let's Cupcake

A cute little bakery in the outer sunset. Easy for anyone to get to since it is right on the N-Judah line. The girl behind the counter was cute, helpful and steered us to some great choices. I had to give the Nutella latte a shot and wasn't disappointed. They have only been open for two months and are still trying to work out some kinks but it seemed really promising. A younger kid (ok not really a kid but I am getting old) came over as we were finishing up and asked how we liked everything and shared some stories about the bakery. If I lived closer I would go more often just to be supportive of the kind of bakery that I wish I owned.
